Black girl hair pulling

Question for the black ladies of the site:

Hair pulling in a catfight is one of my favorite tactics to see.  While I have come across some black women with long beautiful natural hair interested in hair pulling in a catfight, I'm starting to see that just as many would rather wear a wig and skip the hair pulling to avoid hair damage.  One girl told me that if she wore braids or a sew in during a catfight with hair pulling, that could cause significant hair loss.

I understand that maintaining natural hair is a lot of work and that some might rather wear wigs but I'm just wondering how common this is for black women?
