Title: Is Yahoo Messenger closing down?
Post by: tomboy999999 on June 21, 2016, 06:45:33 PM
It is suggested that Yahoo Messenger is going smartphone only in August.

Shame if it is since its great place to cyber fight. Quite stable and a conversation thread in case  your cyber is interuppted.

I had received an email about this. They want you to download the newest version of Yahoo Messenger by August 5th. All older versions will shut down. So if I read the email right messenger will still be around...

From my email......

Starting August 5, 2016, older versions of Yahoo Messenger will be discontinued. Please upgrade to the newest version to continue using Yahoo Messenger:
   •   On mobile, get the new app for Android or iOS here
   •   On your computer, use https://messenger.yahoo.com in your web browser, or use Messenger in Yahoo Mail at https://mail.yahoo.com (look for the smiley face icon in the top left)
What about the Windows and Mac versions?
They are not available yet, but we're working on it! Sign up here to be notified of any updates. In the meantime, we encourage you to try the browser version at https://messenger.yahoo.com.

No Boxer, you mis-read the email.

They said that messenger will still be around in the mobile version, the web browser one, and the mail messenger.

The 'Windows' one will shut down, and they promised to work on one in the future.

Also, like Ini pointed out, there is a thread about it in the General section. She was kind enough to put a link to it, I think it would benefit us all to keep the conversation in one place for all to read, than to spread it over multiple threads :-)
