Title: just a re post of Barbs great site
Post by: tomboy999999 on May 13, 2016, 12:22:12 PM
Many of you will remeber this site by the legendary Barb but in re-reading it recently I realized just how good her stuff was. Still maybe the most authentic female combat stuff on the net despite being 20 years old now - yes really!

Anyway if by chance you havent seen it go to the link and enjoy.

Hard to believe that it's been 10 years since Barb took down her site.  Site and woman were amazing.  Thanks for the post.

I really wish someone would find an archived version of a site called big koala or something, redheads and wrestling with the pics. It was really hot and one of my first exposures to this. Haha

I just wish all the pictures on the pages could still be viewed.  Regardless though, great content.

Who were the asshats that ruined it?

I'm trying to remember the old screen names.

Holy crap, that's an amazing stroll down memory lane.

Anybody have the URL of her old message board?

I think that Barb prevailed over the people who caused her grief over the years; that is, they weren't responsible for her deciding to close up shop.  To monitor a board like hers required a ton of time and energy, and at some point we all get tired.

In regard to screen names, the person that caused the most havoc was some unhinged neo Nazi who's screen name I remember, but have chosen to erase just because he was so creepy that writing the name made me uneasy.  He even crashed her site at one point.  There were others who stopped by on occasion to try to stir up trouble, but ultimately skulked away after awhile.  I don't understand people like that, but they're obviously out there.

Thanks for posting that link.  Barb's site was the best thing I've ever seen on women's wrestling; nothing else has even come close.  Younger people just missed out by not having it available.

Barb's site was the first time I really felt I wasn't the only person who liked this.  She's a great lady in every sense of the word.

I heard that the reason Barb's board was shut down because Barb was battling cancer and passed away...but I hope I was misinformed and she actually quit because she got tired of it.

IMO, this forum is much wealthier in terms of content and variety than Barb's board. After all, in those days when I googled "female wrestling" a few hundred results would come up, I've just googled "female wrestling" and ended up with 8,910,000 results now.

Thanks to Barb's board I found out about a number of live events, conventions and attended them that I would have missed otherwise. One thing which was prevalent at Barb's board and thankfully does not exist here is the cyberbullying and the flamewars. Well, everyone is different...perhaps, some people really found all that crap entertaining and that's why missing it! Also, some hackers were lurking in Barb's board...my computer got badly infected a couple of times from links posted there.

Great chance to see the site again.  Thanks for posting it.  I think Barb's site did a really good job of normalizing this for a lot of us.  She also was the first to really do the voice verified stuff and work to bring interested women together for this.  While this site and others have done a lot to reclaim that legacy, still nobody has done it as well as Barb did.
