Title: New wrestling clinic discussions :)
Post by: sararwrestles on June 25, 2013, 04:30:02 PM
hi... i'm still pretty much a newbie when it comes to wrestling and was hoping some of you could share any tips and tricks you have regarding holds and wrestling in general... i love wrestling and would love to learn as much as i can :)

i hope we can have a lot of discussions... to get the first one going... what tips do you have to get the most out of a headlock?

Tight pull and proper placement of the arm. If you can, turn the person's head so their ear isn't against your side, but more of their chin. That way, your forearm and bicep are squeezing more of the head instead of just pressing the head against your side. I'm no expert, that's just from my own experience. Your mileage may vary.

well i don't have the time or money to go to a wrestling school... but of course, no one's trying to hurt each other... unless it's in cyber :)

If you are serious about learning wrestling, go to a wrestling school and get proper training so people don't get hurt.

For me the concept of the head lock it about keeping you opponent in control weather is the basic side necklock and front face lock

its about keeping you opponents in control while leading to your next move, bear in mind the necklock also exposed ur lower body for attack but thats another discussion

Neck-lock is where u wrap ur hand around the head or neck to trap the person and  lock on tight , if around the head it allow you to squeeze the head a little and pressure ur opponent but it around the neck it can be likc a choke hold which usually nor allows

hope it helps

No, more face into you. Like that image of Carol's up there. Except as a guy, the breast wouldn't be mashing up against her face.

I normally don't have my boob mashing into the face either.

Always more fun when you get their  own boob in their face  ;)

nobody here tries to get a submission with a headlock?  i'm guessing that it could be done...

It depends. I usually try to feel out what my opponent's weakness is. Finding that, that's the submission I go for.

It was wrestler Ed "Strangler" Lewis's finisher in later years so yeah it can be...

I've gotten submissions with headlocks... of course I've turned them  more into neck cranks when I did them

Yeah, it's usually the twisting and cranking that gets the submission.

This is how I've learned to do it... I get the side headlock on and then I walk my feet forward... sinking down to the mat as I do until I'm sitting down and my opponent is basically on their stomach with my arm still locked around their head... It's fairly easy to take them down because they are pulled off balanced and forced to support your bodyweight... once they're down all you have to do is tighten up and lean back... this will crank their neck back... and since your arm is right around their jaw... you can squeeze there too and add all kinds of paralyzing pain to the hold

It's been done to me in real life so I know what I'm talking about... most people would submit :)

That's how I was imagining the neck crank. I didn't know there's an MMA move with that name. I know I'd submit irl if someone had me like that. That's why I try not to be in that position.

I like ya topic here Sara. Honestly I don't really use headlocks too much but I think everyone here gave ya a pretty good idea on how to use it. I've heard of that neck crank thingy and I've been shown like a chinlock where its kinda like a sleeper with your elbow around their neck only ya put it around their chin and squeeze and twist. It hurts a lot and can be pretty effective. Hope that helps ya!

after she mentioned him i looked him up... he made this wooden head to practice his headlock on... it was made of two wooden halves that were connected with i think railroad springs? and he could squeeze against the railway springs so that the two halves would meet

i can't imagine what that kind of strength felt like... yikes!

Wow Nutmeg, impressive that you know about Strangler Lewis. He got that nickname from using the headlock. People were freaking out because they thought he was strangling them. He was the first heel in wrestling.  He became Lou Thesz's manager when Thesz was young. Lewis is considered the greatest American wrestler in the first half of the 20th century.I think he was the first 2 time or 3 time world champion. A true legend that should be in the WWE Hall of Fame.

It can be, tying this thread into the one about being pwned ;) Seems to work well on opponents who you're trying to figure out if they're looking to lose. Someone who's going to give you and even match will find a way out.

Either way I don't think anyone will get a win from a headlock, unless your opponent is super subbie.

True. But those do exist out there. I guess I can see that for straight gals, anything that's possibly sexual like rubbing against your opponent's breasts can be as off putting as something similar in m v m matches.  And I can see how that would help you figure out a person's true wants in the match.

Thanks for adding to the discussion. It's good to hear from someone with a similar mindset when it comes to cyber.
