Title: Discord
Post by: CaseyWrestles on November 14, 2024, 03:48:27 PM
As usual, I'm late to everything. Just curious how many are using Discord. What are the advantages over a platform such as Trillian? I'm thinking of giving it a try.

Trillian doesn't save your chat history, crashes fairly often for me personally and has bugs more commonly. It's not complete trash by any means, but it is most certainly the 2nd place out of the two.

Discord saves histories and images without issue so far after years. It has more customization features as well as fun things you can do with your texts when you learn more of it's finer details.

Both apps have fairly large communities though discord gets an edge here as well in that it allows persistent servers to exist and be freely left and joined as you please. These servers are great ways to meet new people or enjoy the content they share like videos, stories and pictures.

My own preference will always be discord to the point I no longer use Trillian.

Each program has its advantages and disadvantages, but I think the two can be combined. Trillian is more agile with translations, Discord you have to download a translator and configure it. Discord has more multimedia possibilities. Trillian is more agile, Discord has to be configured. I use both and prefer trillian.

I much prefer discord. Among other things, you can edit a post, reply to a specific post. I haven't found how to do this on trillian.

As usual, I'm late to everything. Just curious how many are using Discord. What are the advantages over a platform such as Trillian? I'm thinking of giving it a try.

My experience is the following:

I tried chatfighters first, alhought I knew FCF I only used to read stories never really knew it had a place for members to cyberfight until later on and only now I'm starting to do something like that. Then I met Discord and this changed my life because it has so many server, so many people, so many themes you can focus on to the point that when I first heard about Trillian and even tried it felt awful.

I had some problems with Trillian app, it wasn't intuitive to me, it had bad performance and made me give up. But I was still curious and give it another try. And another. Nowadays I'm using it still trying to extract the most of it but still rather Discord. I'm only at one group at Trillian while I can be at several in Discord because I can simply search on google for invitational links while Trillian I need someone to invite me to groups that I don't even know they exist!

Also I've heard about some people starting to use google chats, have no idea how is done but seems to be an alternative to Trillian as well. There is also the fact that Trillian seems to be used by an eldery group while Discord is full of young people.

I don't have any issues with Discord, it's pretty simple and keeps the connection. Like everything it has its advantages, disadvantages, and I agree with Marlu, but overall it works well.
